I then popped the switcher adapter out to see how they did it, and ALL the grounds are on the same plane. Giving the linear one more look, I noticed that pin12 ties with pin11, on a two pin island, but NO OTHER GROUND. The wiring harness is a new repro, but continuity is 100% accurate (plus it works with the AS adapter). You would think that wouldn't be important, as most grounds tie to each other - but pin1 and pin16 meters 0V. However, the wiring diagram for both games show a contradictory pin16 as the return ground. The 90414 schematic shows J2 pin1 as the 12V, and pin12 as the return ground. Then I decided to measure at J2 and found my problem. All traces are fine, continuity checks out. I went over the 12V circuit with a fine-toothed comb (it's only about 5 diodes and a cap). It covers all three versions of the game 550-Upright, 557-Cocktail, and 555-Mini AKA Cabaret. This is complete with fold out schematics. Still no 12V when measured at the 3-pin connector. Here is an original Bosconian parts & operating manual covering the 1982 Midway arcade game. However, I'm a stickler for using original supplies when possible, so I ordered a kit from Peter and replaced the 90414 with all new components, save resistors. When I was placing orders with various vendors to get everything working, I grabbed the Galaga switching adapter from AS, and threw that in - no issues, and played a ridiculous amount of games. game that was released by Namco in 1981 and licensed to Midway Games for U.S. It came with a 90414 that didn't supply 12V at the 3-pin PCB power connector, although 5V was fine.
